The Nuts and Bolts of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Investigations by Internal Auditors

 

After completing this workshop attendees will be able to conduct investigations and have an effective and professional process for conducting internal investigations of complaints made against employees. Persons assigned to investigate such matters must ensure that all internal investigations are handled in a prompt, fair & impartial manner.

Learning Objectives:
  • Review the importance of an Operating a Hotline as an open, unbiased and responsive complaint intake process (documentation of the hotline process, referrals, etc.)
  • Define the different types of reviews involving internal reviews of alleged fraud, waste, abuse or other misconduct (complaint review, inquiry, investigation) and achieve the objectives of investigations. Attendees will be acquainted with the applicable professional standards for general investigations.
  • Acquaint attendees regarding the interviewing techniques associated with internal investigations. The attendee will learn the differences in interviewing civilians, witness employees and subject employees. The attendee will also learn the difference between an interview and an interrogation and documentation of interviews.
  • Inform the attendees of the importance of investigative report writing (what to include in the report and how to structure it).
