The Honorable Brent X. Thurmond, CPA, (Wakulla) was installed as the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers President during the 2015 Summer Conference at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach in June. Thurmond takes over for the Honorable Joseph E. Smith (St. Lucie), who served as President this past year.
President Thurmond emphasized in his acceptance speech that Clerks need to remain unified and remember they have “67 Paths to One Shared Destiny.” Along with Clerk Thurmond, the new Executive Committee and Board of Directors were also installed at the Annual Banquet Tuesday night.
Before passing the baton to Clerk Thurmond, Clerk Smith honored Clerks who made an impact in the past year. The Honorable Tara S. Green (Clay) was named as Clerk of the Year for her efforts with the Operation Green Light campaign in April. The Honorable Tim Sanders (Madison), the Honorable Tim Smith (Putnam) and the Honorable Pam Childers (Escambia) were honored with Special Recognition Awards for their leadership. The Honorable Ken Burke (Pinellas) was honored for his leadership with AOSC 14-19 Task Force and the Honorable Paula S. O’Neil, Ph.D., (Pasco) was honored for her role in serving as mentor to Clerk Smith in the past year.
Clerk Smith also took time to honor the vendors that were helpful to the Clerks in waiving fees for the Operation Green Light campaign.
