The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has recognized the Honorable Joseph E. Smith (St. Lucie), with two national awards in government financial reporting.

The Clerk’s easy-to-read citizen’s report, Dollars & Sense: Your Practical Guide to County Finances, received the association’s award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for the seventh consecutive year.

For the 13th consecutive year, the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report received the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The report includes all county financial information, such as statements, assets, revenues, expenses, and tax collections.

“We produce Dollars & Sense to help our citizens understand the financial health of our county and the community we all enjoy,” said Clerk Smith, “It’s just another way we ensure county finances are transparent and that our citizens are informed of the decisions made by their elected officials.”

Both publications include financial information for the county’s 2016 fiscal year, which ran from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016. The reports are available on the Clerk’s website. The new Dollars & Sense report for the 2017 fiscal year will be released in April 2018.
