MVP of the Week

Monday, May 19, 2025

The Alachua County Driver License Project has evolved from a once-a-year event into a year-round, resolution-focused program. This expanded initiative is a collaborative partnership between the Alachua County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Office, Court Administration, the Tax Collector, and Three Rivers Legal Services, dedicated to helping individuals with suspended licenses regain their driving privileges.

Many program participants are indigent or low-income and face significant challenges navigating the legal system without representation.

Through this program, they receive pro bono legal assistance, while the Clerk’s office and tax collector's office work together to gather comprehensive information on outstanding citations and driving records. The Clerk’s office also provides payment plans to help resolve balances, and the court facilitates requests for community service conversions and other necessary motions.

Previously known as the Driver License Clinic and associated with Operation Green Light, the program has helped more than 500 individuals over the past six years. Now, as a year-round initiative, the Driver License Project is poised to reach and positively impact even more members of their community.

This ongoing effort exemplifies how the Clerk's office is “Increasing Clerk Engagement” by expanding access to justice and removing barriers for residents working to restore their driving privileges.
