Hillsborough County commissioners have agreed unanimously to rename the court building located at 419 N. Pierce Street in Tampa in honor of former Hillsborough County Clerk of Court, the Honorable Pat Frank, who retired in January at the age of 91. The building is where Clerk Frank served as a school board member and where the legislative delegation met during her terms in office. The building now houses Official Records and is also where the Clerk’s office holds civil marriage ceremonies.
Commissioner Harry Cohen, who served as legal counsel to the Clerk’s office before his election in November, suggested the honor. Frank, Cohen said, “has literally given 50 years of public service on behalf of our county and our state,” beginning with her 1972 election to the school board — on her fourth run for the office. “She was one of the pioneering women leaders in this community at a time where there were a lot fewer than there are today,” he said. “I think all of us, men and women, aspire to stand on her shoulders and be the type of public servant that she has always proved to be.”
Clerk Frank did not attend the meeting, but the county hoped to invite her to a future dedication ceremony, Cohen said.
