The Florida Court Public Information Officers (FCPIO) held a virtual award ceremony on Wednesday, April 7, via Zoom technology, to recognize its members and other groups and individuals who have made significant contributions that further FCPIO’s mission and court communications in Florida. Receiving a 2020 “Excellence in Communications Award” were the communications teams of the Florida Courts, The Florida Bar, and the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers for their joint effort creating the “Know Your Courts Safe Steps” public service announcement video message campaign to educate citizens about the steps courts are taking to protect the public’s health when visiting a courthouse during the COVID-19 pandemic. Accepting the award on behalf of FCCC, Chris Hart IV, CEO, thanked Sara Miles, FCPIO President, who presented the award, and all of the FCPIO members, for recognizing this important joint effort, noting how the campaign, which built off of earlier “Know Your Court” messaging, has helped to further Clerks’ collaborative work with all court partners. Paul Flemming, public information officer for the Office of the State Courts Administrator (OSCA), and Jennifer Krell Davis, Deputy Director of Communications for The Florida Bar, who accepted the award for their respective organizations, also spoke to the strong working relationship and thanked Clerks, the state court system, and members of The Florida Bar for helping to disseminate this important information to all Floridians.
