Outgoing Chief Justice Charles Canady passed the gavel to incoming Chief Justice Carlos G. Muñiz in a ceremony for court staff on June 29, 2022. Canady served as Florida's 54th Chief Justice from July 2010 through June 2012. He was elected by his colleagues to serve as Chief Justice for a second time starting July 1, 2018, and a third time starting July 1, 2020.
During the ceremony, Canady described his successor as “deeply committed,” stating that “he will give it his all and he will bring to this, as he does everything else, a very thoughtful, determined approach." Canady added, “I’m grateful that he’s willing to take on this responsibility.”
