House Select Committee on Property Taxes Meets in Tallahassee This Week

The House Select Committee on Property Taxes, co-chaired by Representative Vicki L. Lopez and Representative Toby Overdorf, is holding two meetings in Tallahassee this week. As a reminder, Speaker of the House Daniel Perez established the 37-member body in late April and tasked it with reviewing the current state of property taxes in Florida and exploring a variety of potential reforms in advance of the 2026 Regular Session of the Florida Legislature.
The committee meets today, Monday, September 22, 2205, from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET, to hear presentations on school taxes, homestead property tax benefits, millage rates, and fiscally constrained counties. On Tuesday, September 23, the committee continues its meeting from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. ET, for panel discussions on municipal property taxes and county property taxes. An overview of the Executive Office of the Governor’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Team’s efforts follows, concluding with a discussion among committee members.
Meetings scheduled for this week can be viewed live on the Florida Channel. To watch, select the “Live Streams” tab from the menu on the right-hand side of the screen, then scroll down to select the stream for the meeting or event of interest. Please note, events on the Live Streams schedule begin streaming about 10 minutes prior to their scheduled start times. Audio is available when the event is officially convened by the chair.
