The Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) Ethics and Elections Committee met last Tuesday in Tallahassee and passed Proposal 13 by Commissioner Carolyn Timmann on a 6-1 vote. This proposal, which deals with the right of citizens in each county to be able to elect their constitutional officers, next heads to the full CRC, where a majority vote of the entire commission (not just those present) is needed to send the proposal to the CRC Style and Drafting Committee. Once the proposal returns from Style and Drafting, it will take 22 votes of the entire commission to place the proposal on the ballot. The timetable for consideration by the full commission has not yet been determined.
Congratulations to Commissioner Timmann on the successful passage of this proposal out of committee, and thank you to those Clerks who presented and attended the meetings of the committees that took action on this proposal: the Honorable Don Barbee, Esq. (Hernando); the Honorable Stacy M. Butterfield, CPA (Polk); the Honorable Hunter S. Conrad, Esq. (St. Johns); the Honorable Tara S. Green (Clay); the Honorable Tom Bexley (Flagler); the Honorable Billy Washington (Madison); the Honorable JD Peacock II (Okaloosa); and the Honorable Gwen Marshall (Leon).
For those Clerks and Comptrollers who were unable to watch last week’s meeting live, the full video recording is available via this link from The Florida Channel. Commissioner Timmann’s proposal was the first item taken up by the committee.
